Positive Visual: The Dream House

Late last year, my husband emailed a link to this article about positive visuals. It was a short but focused article on the good side of having a visual inspiration. The article suggested that you must have a photo of something that makes you happy or inspired, or of something that you want to have in the future. My husband has a picture of a BMW on his laptop. It took me a while to choose my own positive visual, not because I don’t know what I long for, but because I have so many design ideas in mind.

Just one thing for me: a house

It doesn’t have to be big. But I want it built on a nice neighborhood with lots of trees and birds and well-educated people. I’ve yet to finalize some Home Design Ideas, but I’m leaning towards Victorian design and architecture. Or something like the one in the picture. Quaint, isn’t it?

Batangas Suman & Tsokolate

Batangas Suman 2

Gino was in Taal, Batangas last week for a work-related seminar. He brought home some local goodies, including these yummy rolls of Batangas suman which I lovingly dipped in Batangas chocolate (tableas).

Oh, yeah, I’d still choose to stay in the Southern Tagalog region if only for the FOOD.

Fun at Water Camp

After weeks of enduring the early summer heat, we finally drove to a nearby resort and took the plunge. We set off at around 7 in the morning of March 19, packed lunch in trunk, and with a sleepy baby on board. (I actually had to pack her breakfast so she wouldn’t have to swim on an empty stomach.) On the way, we thought we’d get caught in the usual Friday traffic. But surprisingly, we got there in less than an hour. We took the path that snakes its way through Imus proper. That route is a joy for me, because it includes a good view of old houses built during the Spanish era. I fed Candice teaspoonfuls of rice and corned beef while I oohed and aahed over those antiquated houses.

We reached Water Camp at 8 a.m. G made arrangements with the resort management days before so we were, uhrm, given special treatment as soon as we got there. The Punzalans gave us a room in this neat villa situated very near the pool. Candice was so ecstatic upon entering the premises. She kept yelling “Swimim na! Swimim na!” She was jolly jumping in bed, still wearing her pambahay clothes.

It was Candice’s first time to visit Water Camp. Gino and I are second-timers. I was glad to see the same pool that runs through a round-the-clock filter. The service and the ambiance did not change. The local staff are ever friendly and courteous. The resort is clean and orderly. What more, there are trees everywhere! It’s like you’re swimming in a flowing stream surrounded by flora and fauna. (OK – there was no fauna.)

We were ready to go dipping in less than 15 minutes. Father and daughter went ahead of me. The water was COLD. It was like swimming in an enclosed body of water that’s not getting enough warmth from the sun. I slathered SPF30 all over Candice’s body before I let her slip into her airplane floater. I’m thankful for this floater, by the way. It’s got smooth leg holes that somehow secure your baby on the pool. Unlike the usual round floater, this one lets you save some energy because you won’t have to hold on to your toddler all the time. You just let her tread and kick and tread and kick. You can get this floater at SM for PHP170.

^ This long and narrow lazy river is about 3 feet deep — relatively safe for elves, trolls and giants.

After about 2 hours of swimming, we dried up and had a hefty lunch (you wouldn’t believe how much I ate!). Candice and G took their naps. I wasn’t too sure if I had a good one. I was deeply troubled by the tsk-tsk-tsk’ing of a lizard that’s probably stationed somewhere near my pillow.

We went swimming for another hour before finally calling it a fun day. I wish I had more time at the pool, but I was too careful not to overdo things. Candice enjoyed the water, the playground, the people. My dear husband, as usual, got TIRED. Heh heh. I hope we could go swimming again before summer ends.

Water Camp is a family-friendly resort. Alcoholic drinks are prohibited. Horsing around at the pool is highly discouraged. (Lifeguards blow their whistles every now and again.) Water Camp is for those who just want to swim, eat, sleep, cool down and/or chat. It’s the only nearby resort that I’m very fond of.

Have you been to any resort in Cavite? How was it?

On celebrating a marriage

How curious to see life unfold before you. When you mark the anniversary of your marriage, you suddenly go down memory lane and retell stories that make up 9 years of knowing each other. And then you look at your first offspring and marvel at how God maneuvered everything to bring together this blessed family.

Everything’s so right.

Last week, as G and I went reminiscing, I tried to recall the past anniversary celebrations that we had. It was relatively easy to revive memories from the first two years, but the third year seemed a bit bleak. I worried about it for a while. This morning, however, the fog suddenly cleared and my memory had a good jog once again.

Here’s a rundown of our previous anniversary celebrations:

2006
We had a juicy beefy lunch at Tropical Hut then we drove around the old Imus town proper to check out antiquated pre-war houses. We couldn’t go too far at that time because I just went through a D&C (dilation and curettage) procedure following my miscarriage. G wanted to cheer me up with burgers and old houses :o )

2007
Once again my condition didn’t allow us to go to a faraway place. I was on second trimester and was on bed rest most of the time. I had a prenatal checkup on the day of our anniversary and actually had to ask my OB-GYNE if I could stay a bit longer in a mall and have lunch. She said I could but I had to stay seated most of the time. We treated ourselves to a huge meal at North Park in Alabang. It was my first time to eat the special North Park siopao. A few months later, I gave birth to a siopao-like baby.

2008
It was our first time to celebrate with the Li’l Dumpling. We thought about celebrating our anniversary with G’s side of the family because they were supposed to migrate to the US that year. Mommy made a sumptuous lunch (as usual). They didn’t get to leave though.

This year we celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary with memories and words that transcend burgers, old houses, and dumplings. We did have a good lunch with our little girl. (She ate a lot of lumpiang shanghai, fried chicken and ice cream.) Somehow an anniversary celebration is never complete without good food and nice gifts. They form part of the blessings that you ought to share with loved ones.

But beyond all these gastronomic delights and fancy things is the pure joy of being together still and staying strong amidst trials, adversities and seemingly erroneous decisions. This, I suppose, is the whole point of celebrating a marriage.

Happy fourth anniversary to my Knight in Shining Barong. Mwayyy.
